In Godly Play, when we extinguish a candle we talk about "changing the light". We make the distinction between putting the light out, and changing it, and the children watch as the smoke drifts across the room until it is invisible. We say that the light of the prophets, the Holy Family, baptism or whatever is "with you wherever you go". WonderBoy has heard that for the last four years, and the other day he brought me a poem he wrote (when he was supposedly doing his homework).
I'll take this over spelling words any day:
AMEN
When you say "amen" it's really not good-bye.
God follows you where ever you go.
So it's not good-bye it's more of hello.
